March 5th is National Absinthe Day!
National Absinthe Day is annually observed on March 5. On this day, we celebrate the drink known as “the green fairy.” Absinthe originated in Switzerland in the 18th century and became popular in France in the early 20th century, especially with artists, and writers like Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, and Oscar Wilde.
Absinthe can be enjoyed alone in moderation. Don’t forget that it is very strong. The traditional way of serving it is to place a sugar cube onto a specially designed spoon, which is then placed over a glass which has already been filled with a measure of absinthe. Iced water is then poured over the sugar cube.
The drink enjoys a mystique and is often associated with bohemian culture, making it an especially fun drink to enjoy today. If absinthe alone is a little too strong for you, you could always mix it up with some cocktails. There’s plenty of tasty cocktails which can be made with the green drink. You could always use some experiment and get creative with different mixers.
We hope you enjoy the Absinthe Day! Salud responsibly!
